Southwest Harbor, Maine
Incorporated in 1905
The Quiet Side of the Island...
While many tourists to the island of Mount Desert are familiar with Bar Harbor on the northeast coast of Maine, Southwest Harbor is a quiet jewel located on the west side of the island.  First settled by fishermen, the town retains our maritime heritage- boasting healthy fishing fleets and a myriad of boat yards.

Unlike the busy east side, the "Quiet Side" of Acadia offers a variety of recreation and relaxation for visitors.  We invite you to browse our webpages, or better yet, visit us and enjoy a classic Maine island vacation!

Acadia's Oktoberfest, The Southwest Harbor & Tremont Chamber of Commerce annual fundraiser has been noted as "one of the spots not to miss" and one of the "top ten festivals in New England" by the national RV Magazine and New England brewery magazines.  It is one of the largest and most popular festivals in Maine with over 2,000 people in attendance for the weekend.  The Chamber is currently seeking Sponsors for this remarkable event.
